Vehicles exceeding the limits of a legal load (per the California Vehicle Code) traveling on city streets must obtain a Transportation Permit through the City of Merced Engineering Department.

  1. Applicants must complete the Transportation Permit Form below and return a signed copy via email to contactengineering@cityofmerced.gov .

  2. A copy of the check for the appropriate fee shall be submitted with the transportation form, with the original check being mailed to: Engineering Department, 678 West 18th Street, Merced, CA 95340.

Transportation Permit requests must be submitted in a timely manner. Single Trip Permit requests will be reviewed and returned within 2 business days after receipt of payment, unless Police Department review required. Annual Permits will be reviewed and returned within 5 business days of receipt of payment unless Police Department review required.

Fees

  • $16: Single Trip Permit
  • $70: Annual Permit

Please note: Payment by check must be made payable to the City of Merced. 

Restricted Movement Times

The following commute hours shall be avoided during transport:

  • 7:30-8:30 AM
  • Noon-1:00 PM
  • 4:30-5:30 PM
