Merced, Calif [August 14, 2026] - Today, representatives from the City of Merced met with California State Senator Anna Caballero and representatives from the California High-Speed Rail Authority to continue discussions regarding high-speed rail and the proposed station location in Merced. 

The meeting focused on the information and commitments needed as the project moves forward. There was mutual interest in future discussions regarding topics that include infrastructure, transportation and connectivity, public safety, land use and development, and the costs and funding associated with a Merced station. 

State elected representatives Senator Anna Caballero and Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria are aware of local efforts and have expressed a willingness to support these efforts at the state level. The City plans to request a meeting with the Governor’s Office and continue discussions with the California High-Speed Rail Authority. 

City representatives are finalizing a list of priorities and commitments needed from the State and the Authority as discussions move forward. Once finalized, that information will be made public.
