Officers with the Merced Police Department worked a Shoulder Tap Operation on April 20th.  The purpose of the sting operation was to cite adults for furnishing cigarettes to minors.  Under the direct supervision of the officers, minor decoys stood outside local businesses that are licensed to sell cigarettes and asked adults entering the stores to purchase cigarettes for them.

The minor decoys approached ten adults at two different businesses.  No adults purchased cigarettes for the minor decoys.

Funding for this program was provided by the California Proposition 56.
